MotoGP star Marc Marquez said Honda gave him full
support for his fourth operation.
Marquez said Honda had no hesitation in pushing him to undergo a fourth operation on his right arm. Marquez then recounted the moment when Honda gave him full support.
"I feel they have great respect, from Honda, for me."
"They [Honda] said to me, 'Your life is more important. Put yourself first. We will wait'," said Marquez quoted from Crash.
Marquez had previously given Honda the option to continue this season without undergoing a fourth operation. In that choice, Marquez was realistic.
"I said to them, 'The situation is like this, if you want, I can continue racing with these conditions. Finish in 5-10 positions and maybe get a podium in some series,' said Marquez.
Marquez has undergone three operations on his right arm since having an accident at the Spanish MotoGP 2020 which is the opening series. Although two years have passed, Marquez's right arm has not fully recovered.
Marquez still often feels uncomfortable with the condition of his right arm and it affects when Marquez rides a motorbike on the track.
In MotoGP 2022, Marquez consistently finishes in the top 10 but has never felt on the podium. He collected 60 points, 62 points behind Fabio Quartararo who became the leader of the standings.
Marquez also briefly missed the Mandalika MotoGP
and the Argentine MotoGP because of the diplopia, aka double vision, which he
had relapsed due to an accident in Mandalika.
